PME-1   (Caenorhabditis elegans)

Description [+]
  • Synonyms: PME-1
  • Species: Metazoa;Bilateria;Ecdysozoa;Nematoda; Caenorhabditis elegans
  • Short gene description: pme-1 encodes a poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) orthologous to human PARP1 (OMIM:173870). PME-1 has two N-terminal zinc fingers that probably bind DNA, and a C-terminal catalytic domain. PME-1 has PARP activity in vitro, which is blocked by mammalian PARP inhibitors. since these inhibitors also cause embryonic lethality in worms exposed to ionizing radiation, PME-1 is likely to be required in vivo for repairing broken DNA.
